Natural gas generators in Surrey

Surrey generator enquiries can involve a single home, a business or several buildings on one property. Start by establishing which meter and electrical service supply each part of the site.

Start here

Multiple buildings, service capacity and staged backup loads

Ask BeeWarm to assess the gas-side requirements and confirm the scope it can take on. Your project also needs an appropriately qualified electrical contractor, equipment supplier and any required design professionals.

Map the buildings and utility routes

For a house with a detached shop or secondary accommodation, label each meter, panel and existing gas branch. Make clear whether the backup goal covers one building or several. Separate services cannot be treated as one simple connection without a designed arrangement.

Choose what restarts first

Prepare a priority list for pumps, refrigeration, heating equipment and business controls. Starting several motors together can change generator selection. Ask about staged restart and load management instead of choosing a unit from floor area or panel size alone.

Coordinate gas and electrical visits

Provide the same equipment brief to the gas fitter and electrician. The generator model, fuel consumption, voltage, phase and transfer arrangement must agree across both scopes. A meter upgrade discussion should happen before a pad is poured or equipment is ordered.

Gas capacity: the meter is only the start

Bring a list of existing gas appliances, the proposed generator model and a sketch of the actual piping route. The gas fitter must assess fuel demand, available pressure, the regulator and downstream piping together. Electrical output in kW is not the generator’s gas input. Read our meter and longest-run planning guide before the visit.

Permits and local checks

Surrey has local electrical permitting responsibilities; gas work is generally under Technical Safety BC. Confirm scope and jurisdiction with the project team. Ask the team to document who obtains each approval and who commissions the completed system. Municipal building, siting and noise requirements are separate questions from gas and electrical permits.

What to send with your enquiry

  • Your Surrey address or neighbourhood, property type and proposed location.
  • The circuits, equipment or business processes you want to support.
  • Photos of accessible meter and equipment labels, without removing covers.
  • A route sketch, existing drawings and any strata or landlord requirements.
  • Your preferred timing and whether equipment has already been selected.

Do not alter gas equipment or connect a generator to building wiring yourself. Have the appropriately qualified team design, permit, install and test the system.

Does a larger Surrey property automatically need a larger generator?

No. The selected loads, motor starting demands and outage priorities determine capacity. A large property may need only a defined essential-load system, while a smaller business can have demanding equipment.
