Natural gas generators in Coquitlam
A Coquitlam generator plan should connect equipment access with the property’s essential loads. A workable outdoor location must remain practical for delivery, testing and future service.
Sloping sites, townhouse access and essential pumping loads
Ask BeeWarm to assess the gas-side requirements and confirm the scope it can take on. Your project also needs an appropriately qualified electrical contractor, equipment supplier and any required design professionals.
Review grades and equipment access
If the proposed location is on a slope or behind retaining walls, show the delivery route and proposed pad to the project team. Drainage, stable support and safe working access need review. Do not assume the easiest space on a drawing is the easiest place to install or maintain equipment.
Identify pumps and heating controls
Where a property relies on pumps, record their actual nameplate information and the conditions in which they operate. Include the electrical requirements of gas heating controls as well as the fuel demand of existing appliances. The generator supports selected electrical loads; it does not remove other outage risks.
Prepare townhouse approvals early
For shared property, identify who controls the exterior area and gas supply. Discuss exhaust, ventilation intakes and routine exercise noise with the designer and strata before committing to equipment. Keep access paths and service space in the proposal.
Gas capacity: the meter is only the start
Bring a list of existing gas appliances, the proposed generator model and a sketch of the actual piping route. The gas fitter must assess fuel demand, available pressure, the regulator and downstream piping together. Electrical output in kW is not the generator’s gas input. Read our meter and longest-run planning guide before the visit.
Permits and local checks
Check the exact site jurisdiction and municipal siting requirements with the contractor and Technical Safety BC before work begins. Ask the team to document who obtains each approval and who commissions the completed system. Municipal building, siting and noise requirements are separate questions from gas and electrical permits.

What to send with your enquiry
- Your Coquitlam address or neighbourhood, property type and proposed location.
- The circuits, equipment or business processes you want to support.
- Photos of accessible meter and equipment labels, without removing covers.
- A route sketch, existing drawings and any strata or landlord requirements.
- Your preferred timing and whether equipment has already been selected.
Do not alter gas equipment or connect a generator to building wiring yourself. Have the appropriately qualified team design, permit, install and test the system.
Should a Coquitlam sump pump be included in a backup plan?
If the building relies on it, have the designer assess its running and starting load and the reliability required. Generator backup is one part of a drainage plan, not a guarantee against flooding.
